Petco Grooming - misleading and mediocre
I called ahead of time to get the cost of a full service groom for my Pomeranian. I was given the price of $55 and I felt that was very fair and made an appointment for the next day. When I get there I ask what the "standard" cut for a pom is and the lady explained what they would do and said they would normally just do the under layer and not a shave, like they would some other dogs. At no time in the conversation was I told this would be $20 extra (I later saw on my ticket).
When I went to pick up my dog, I had to pay before I could even see her and approve of the cut... that setup alone is enough to keep me from coming back. When I get to the counter my total is $70. I was shocked because I was told $55 when I had talked to an associate the day before. A groomer comes out and tells me that I had asked for the shedding trim and that I had signed a paper explaining the services at the top. The paper that she showed me was where I had signed to allow Petco to take my dog to the vet in the case of the emergency. She pointed to where the total was and said there was the extra charge for the shedding trim. This was my mistake for not reading the fine print and trusting the groomer to alert me if there were additional charges for what she called "the standard Pomeranian cut".
When I finally got my baby from the groomer I noticed her eyes had not even been wiped... when I got home I had to finish grooming her. Apparently $70 does not pay for a wipe around the eyes.
My dog is soft and smells wonderful, and she was not terrified which leads to believe that they treated her well, which I appreciate tremendously. However, the cut around her feet is so disappointing. The previous groomer shaped up her feet so much more nicely.
All in all I feel mislead, duped and disappointed. I will definitely be taking my baby every 4 weeks to a professional groomer. I know it will cost extra, but at least the ones I know will be upfront about any additional costs and not convince you on the phone that prices will be different than what they will at checkout.
